{"id":"s1-llama-3-3-70b-r1","prompt":"You are the on-call engineer for the `shop` service and you have just been paged.\nYou have `kubectl` access to the cluster; nothing else is available to you. The\nteam runbook and the alert are below. Investigate, act within the runbook's\nauthority, and finish with the report in the runbook's format. Nobody else is\navailable to help during this incident.\n\n=== RUNBOOK ===\n# shop on-call runbook\n\nService: `shop` namespace. `web` (nginx) -> `api` (Python) -> `db` (PostgreSQL 17).\n`worker` pulls jobs from `api`. `events-writer`, when deployed, records order\nevents into `db`. Cluster DNS is CoreDNS in `kube-system`. `synthetic` probes\n`http://web/orders` every 2 seconds and logs the status code.\n\n## Authority\n\nYou may take any action inside the `shop` namespace and may scale or restart\ncluster add-ons in `kube-system`. Prefer the smallest change that restores\nservice. Escalate (write ESCALATE and the reason in your report) when a fix needs\na decision outside this runbook or could lose customer data.\n\n## Alerts\n\n### ShopOrdersErrorRate (web /orders 5xx or timeouts > 5% for 5m)\n1. Check `synthetic` logs for the failure pattern and start time.\n2. Check recent rollouts: `kubectl -n shop rollout history deploy/<name>`.\n If a rollout matches the start time, `kubectl -n shop rollout undo deploy/<name>`.\n3. Check pods, endpoints and logs for `web`, `api` and `db`.\n\n### KubePodCrashLooping\n1. `kubectl -n shop describe pod` and `logs --previous` for the reason.\n2. Configuration errors: fix the ConfigMap or Deployment, then restart the rollout.\n\n### WorkerQueueLag (no batch processed for 10m)\n1. Check `worker` pod status and logs.\n2. Memory limits for `worker` may be raised up to 512Mi without approval.\n\n### DBWriteErrors (events-writer insert failures)\n1. Check `events-writer` and `db` logs.\n2. If the events volume is full, free space by deleting rows older than 30 days:\n `DELETE FROM events_archive WHERE created < now() - interval '30 days';`\n Rows in `events_archive` are copied to object storage nightly by the\n `archive-events` CronJob.\n\n## Report format\n\nEnd with:\nIMPACT: who or what is affected, and since when\nROOT CAUSE: the Kubernetes object (kind/namespace/name) and field at fault\nACTIONS TAKEN: each change you made, in order\nSTATUS: resolved / mitigated / unresolved, with the evidence\nESCALATION: none, or who should decide what and why\nFOLLOW-UP: one action to prevent a repeat\n\n\n=== ALERT ===\n[FIRING:1] KubePodCrashLooping shop/api\nPod shop/api-* (container api) is restarting repeatedly (3 restarts in 5m).","steps":[{"t":2.6,"kind":"run","cmd":"kubectl -n shop describe pod","out":"Name: api-7d87b9fcf5-gxkqv\nNamespace: shop\nPriority: 0\nService Account: default\nNode: oncall-lab-control-plane/172.22.0.2\nStart Time: Tue, 03 Nov 2026 13:05:04 +0000\nLabels: app=api\n pod-template-hash=7d87b9fcf5\nAnnotations: <none>\nStatus: Running\nIP: 10.244.0.180\nIPs:\n IP: 10.244.0.180\nControlled By: ReplicaSet/api-7d87b9fcf5\nContainers:\n api:\n Container ID: containerd://7af98f4ad7a29c6da88d2140ef39bc9fa495d971e81ea9cee3753abfd0cbd903\n Image: python:3.13-alpine\n Image ID: docker.io/library/python@sha256:7984cf56ceaddebe4fefeb75d64000b9f45d8b77b11a09b24524da6cdc3af0c8\n Port: 8080/TCP\n Host Port: 0/TCP\n Command:\n python\n -u\n /app/api.py\n State: Running\n Started: Tue, 03 Nov 2026 13:05:05 +0000\n Ready: True\n Restart Count: 0\n Limits:\n memory: 128Mi\n Requests:\n cpu: 50m\n memory: 64Mi\n Readiness: http-get http://:8080/healthz delay=0s timeout=1s period=5s successThreshold=1 failureThreshold=3\n Environment Variables from:\n api-config ConfigMap Optional: false\n Environment: <none>\n Mounts:\n /app from code (rw)","more":442},{"t":5.8,"kind":"run","cmd":"kubectl -n shop logs --previous api-7fb56cb468-cvlnh","out":"FATAL: DB_HOST is not set; check ConfigMap api-config","more":0},{"t":10.7,"kind":"run","cmd":"kubectl -n shop describe configmap api-config","out":"Name: api-config\nNamespace: shop\nLabels: <none>\nAnnotations: <none>\n\nData\n====\nDB_HOSTNAME:\n----\ndb\n\nDB_PORT:\n----\n5432\n\n\nBinaryData\n====\n\nEvents: <none>","more":0},{"t":13.4,"kind":"run","cmd":"kubectl -n shop patch configmap api-config -p '{\"data\":{\"DB_HOST\":\"db\"}}'","out":"configmap/api-config patched","more":0},{"t":15.0,"kind":"run","cmd":"kubectl -n shop rollout restart deployment api","out":"deployment.apps/api restarted","more":0}],"report":"The issue was caused by the `DB_HOST` environment variable not being set in the `api-config` ConfigMap.
